Hitless Speedrun Rules for Fallout 3

General Rules
  • Run needs to be done according to the Team Hitless rules
  • Show In-game time after the credits
  • If possible show Livesplittimer or any other type of timer on the screen
  • For general speedrun rules please check this page

Specific Rules for Fallout 3

  • All normal hitless rules for Fallout 3 must be followed.
  • Performance & Display:

    • The game must be locked to 60 FPS at all times during the run.

    • FPS must remain visible on screen throughout the entire run. Tools like RivaTuner or Dxtory are recommended for this.

    • Game audio must be audible in your recording.

    • Using third-party tools to dynamically reduce FPS during gameplay is not allowed.

    Game Integrity:

    • Console commands are strictly prohibited.

    • Mods of any kind are not permitted.

    • All voice files must match in language (no mixing across languages).

    • You must fully exit and relaunch the game between resets to prevent memory or state carryover from prior attempts.

      • While not mandatory, video proof of a clean boot is appreciated to verify game restart.

    Save Requirements:

    • All runs must begin from a custom save file created at the start of the game (after gaining control as the baby).

    • To create this start save:

      • Begin a new game and create your character.

      • After character creation, wait without moving for the autosave to trigger.

      • Once it appears, load that autosave and immediately create a manual save over it.

      • Use this file as your starting save for all runs.

    • All saves loaded during the run must have been created during the same session.

    Timing Rules:

    • Timer begins upon gaining control after loading the start save.

    • Timer ends when pressing Enter at the purifier console.

    Load Management:

    • For PC runs, the use of a load remover is recommended to standardize timing.

    • On console, timing must include loads, as there’s no viable load removal method available.

    Input & Rebinding:

    • Key/button remapping is allowed only under these conditions:

      • Input must be 1:1 — one physical input = one in-game action.

      • A maximum of two inputs per device can be assigned to the same function.

      • Scroll wheel up/down bindings are not allowed.

    Permitted INI Tweaks:
    All changes must be made within Fallout_default.ini found in the installation directory. The following tweaks are allowed:

    ini

    [General]

    bUseThreadedAI=1 ; Stability improvement (was 0 by default)

    iNumHWThreads=2 ; Stability improvement for multicore systems

    bDisableAllGore=1 ; Optional, helps with copyright-safe uploads

    [Display]

    iPresentInterval=0 ; Disables VSync, can reduce input lag

    [Controls]

    fForegroundMouseAccelBase=0

    fForegroundMouseAccelTop=0

    fForegroundMouseBase=0

    fForegroundMouseMult=0 ;

    Disables mouse acceleration

    Not Allowed:

    • Any changes affecting world rendering, disabling tutorials, or providing unfair gameplay advantages.

    • Quicksave spamming is disallowed as it can lead to unintended speed advantages during movement.
